Gold Editor Options
There are some basic settings you need to configure in order to make Navigator Gold work with any WebCom account. With Navigator Gold open:
Creating and Publishing
a New Web Page
With Navigator Gold, creating and publishing original Web pages has never been easier. You no longer have to know the intricacies of HTML code to make your message available to millions.
With Navigator Gold open, you can choose New Document from the File menu. You then have three choices:
After choosing Blank you will be given a blank page on which you can begin typing your page, using the formatting tools built into Navigator Gold to adjust font sizes and styles, insert horizontal lines and images, create hotlinks, and more.
If you choose Template or Wizard, you will be given detailed instructions for creating these types of documents online from Netscape's Web Site.
Once you are ready to put your page on the Web, follow the directions for publishing your document given below, specifying a unique filename ending in .html. You can then view your page online at http://webcom.com/~webcom/guest/filename.html.
The following steps demonstrate how to edit an online document, then repost it to the server, using Netscape Navigator Gold and your WebCom account.
First of all be sure you're connected to the Internet (if you're viewing this page online, then of course you have already done this step). Next, choose a file in your WebCom account that you wish to edit. If you have a new WebCom account, the only Web page which exists in your account is the home.html file which is the "Under Construction" page. For demonstration purposes we will assume this is the page you wish to edit.
Go to the page in the browser mode like you normally would, by typing http://webcom.com/~webcom/userid/home.html in the Location box. When you have this file fully loaded in your browser, click once on the Edit button near the top of the window, below the pull-down menus. You will then be presented with a dialog box which informs you that this file is on a remote system, and that you must first save it to your local disk in order to work on it. Click on Save, and then select a directory on you local system in which to save the file.
You will now find yourself in Navigator Gold's editing interface. You can make changes to this file similar to the way you edit word processing documents. When you are satisfied with your changes, you can then upload the file back to the server with the Publish command.
Publishing - Sending
the document to the Server
When you select Publish from the File pull-down menu, or hit the Publish button, you will be given a dialog box which asks for information regarding where to upload the file.
These are the basic steps to get you started. You can also see Netscape's help for Navigator Gold for more assistance.
